Nikos Manessis is a woodcarving artist born and raised in Athens, Greece and he is currently based in Crete, Greece. His love for both the wood and art has been expressed since the age of 10. He officially started his woodcarving journey at the age of 14, learning as an apprentice how to make wood carved pieces for churches, following the Greek style. Nikos Manessis is known for his natural wooden shapes with small additions of other materials – mostly metals. His mission is to highlight the beauty of nature, the human body and the whole range of human emotions. These three, as well as Greek Mythology are the main sources of his inspiration. “What I do is a personal internal need to shape the wood to its best and remind everyone that things can change just like the malleable matter of wood. We only have to feel it and by any means try for it.” Nikos Manessis says.
