Meet the artist
Nikos Manessis is one of the most well-known and respected wood sculptors in Greece alive. He has been honing his skills on wood since 1978, when he started learning how to curve wooden pannels for Orthodox Churches, as an apprentice at Andravidioti’s wood workshop.
Nikos evolved into an artist sculptor and his talent today speaks for itself. He is the inspirer and organizer of the Panhellenic Woodcarving Symposium that takes place every October in Crete and runs under the support of the World Wood Day Organization. He was chosen to participate in the International Woodcarving Symposium in Tokyo, in 2020. His work has been presented in exhibitions all over the world and his sculptures decorate private and public spaces, including the Central Library of The University of Crete.
One of his current and most heartfelt projects, is the creation of wooden sculptures on tree trunks that were burnt and petrified 200 years ago. He has been featured on TV and radio shows numerous times and has created and published the art book “QUEST” with quality pictures of his pieces. He has been teaching wood sculpture to people from all walks of life since 2015.
